Granby Ranch Brings Back Pond Skim for the First Time in 8 Years!

GRANBY, COLORADO, March 29, 2025

For the first time in 8 years, a hole was dug out in the base area of Granby Ranch, filled with water and rubber ducks, and dozens of skiers and snowboarders braved the cold temperatures in the return of the pond skim. The Skim or Swim challenged skiers and riders ages 10 and over to race down the slopes and glide across the water (often times in outrageous costumes), while local band On 40 provided the soundtrack for the day to keep the energy levels high.

This year the pond was built on the learning trail Ace, next to the Milestone Lift. The pond had previously been on the East Ballroom next to Quickdraw. The new location allowed for easier spectating of the event — whether a friend or family member was up on the 8350 deck, relaxing at the firepit, or right next to the pond in the splash zone!

Of the 54 competitors who signed up for the Skim or Swim, 16 succeeded at crossing the 52-foot long pond: that makes a 30% skim rate and a 70% swim rate!

“I came, I skimmed, I conquered (sort of…) Thanks to Granby Ranch for a most excellent ending to a bodacious season!”, said Matt Deane, one of the skiers who contributed to the 70% swim rate.

Granby Ranch is looking forward to making the Skim or Swim another longstanding annual event to help close out each winter season. Start practicing for 2026!
