Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there anything new or different about the mountain?

Yes! With support and vision of new ownership, nearly $4 million in major capital improvements are underway, of which a major portion is dedicated to enhancing the skiing and riding experience. We are tripling existing snowmaking coverage—from 38 acres to more than 115—to enhance our most popular runs on East Mountain, provide for a true ski-in/ski-out experience all season long for residents, enable earlier winter access to West Mountain, and elevate skiing and riding here to a world-class level with an alpine and freestyle training venue on Desperado. For our customers, this means more reliable and earlier skiing on higher quality snow surfaces. Connectivity will be far faster thanks to new fiber on both mountains. Guests can now expect extraordinary on-mountain dining experiences from our award-winning food and beverage team. On the hill, terrain features and learning parks will dot the landscape. And we will continue our efforts to make Granby Ranch one of the best places in the nation to learn (and grow with) mountain sports.

For more information, please check out our special section on improvements at the mountain.

When will you open for the winter?

Our opening date is Saturday, December 11th, 2021.

Is Granby Ranch good for beginner/first timer skiers and riders?

Yes. Granby Ranch is the perfect mountain to bring beginners/first timers, as well as intermediate and advanced skiers who’d like to perfect their skills.

Where and when can I pick up rental equipment?

Children (ages 12 and under) and Adults can come straight to the Ski & Ride School room to get their rental gear. Stop by either the day before your lesson between 1-3pm, or the morning of your lesson. Please plan to get your rental gear AT LEAST 45 minutes prior to your lesson so we can ensure you start on time.

What is included in a rental package?

For juniors, our packages include skis/board, boots and helmet. Adult packages include skis, boots, and poles. Helmets may be added for an additional $10.

Is lunch included in lessons?

No. We only offer half day lessons and therefore do not include lunch. However, our Bluebird Bistro and Slopeside Café are open most days. Order on the app!

What level am I?

  • Level 1: This is your first time skiing
  • Level 2: You have skied before, you know how to stop using a wedge (snowplow, pizza, etc) but you’re still learning the basics.
  • Level 3: You can stop in a wedge, and are learning how to make turns. You are comfortable riding the lift.
  • Level 4: You are comfortable making turns on green trails

If you’re not sure, that’s okay! We will make sure everyone goes to the level that fits them best based on experience, skill levels, and personal goals.

Is there childcare available?

What should I bring with me?

Be sure to check the weather before you come, but also be prepared for varying conditions. Layers, layers, and more layers.

Eye and hand protection (goggles or sunglasses, and mittens or gloves) are required for kids, recommended for adults, and not available to rent. The sun is very intense at this elevation and can be very dangerous for eyes and uncovered skin. Sunscreen is highly recommended!

Helmets are required for students aged 18 and under, and strongly recommended for everyone else. Helmets save lives!

If you arrive fewer than 15 minutes after the start of your lesson, we will do our best to get you into the right class. If you think you are going to be late, give us a call and we will try to reschedule over the phone. We do not offer refunds for missed lessons.

When should I plan to visit? Will it be busy?

We strongly advise that you plan ahead for your visit and stay tuned to our pre-arrival communications. Typically, Saturdays, the week of Christmas, President’s Day weekend and Spring Break (mid-March) are our busiest periods.
